I have windstream internet service. This is the second modem that has gone bad in two years. Can I buy a modem somewhere else and get it to work or do I have to stay with windstream modem ?? I seen on the internet I can get one through walmart.

When you say modem do you mean DSL or dial up?

DSL the modem has 4 lights it is not part of a router

Really can't say for sure on that. I don't use the AT&T or SBC ones and by my own with a router built in though.
